2012 for Pakistan, a year of bloodshed and corruption.

2012 for Pakistan, a year of bloodshed and corruption.

“2012” a year people dreaded will bring the Doomsday to this world. Instead it brought many judgments and catastrophic situations to Pakistan.

Lawlessness, ignorance towards human rights, bomb blasts, genocide, target killings and missing persons is a very little part of what has engulfed a lot of Pakistan in its blazing flames of devastation. ‘Lies’ and ‘Cries’ being the keywords to describe the nation as it descends towards its decline.
The massive amount of corruption at federal level as well as provincial level is the key factor that affected the common people of the country.
Pak-US relations remained uneven, and Indo-Pak relations improved. Deteriorations of institutions such as PIA and Railway had had a calamitous effect on the economy.
Bomb blasts and target killings have been as common as feeling sleepy during studies. A total of 4,700 people have been the victim of this disaster, this year. The militant wings of the political parties gained encouragement and street crimes soared high.
This year, the people of Pakistan hung between hope and despair. Unimaginable acts of violence were carried out, and who were affected by it? Obviously the common people, because the upper class doesn’t care. They are secure in their huge mansions with security guards, while the vulnerable, hungry, unprotected common man is not sure of his survival of even the next minute.
Lack of security was equally witnessed. The Shiite pilgrims on their way to Iran have been brutally murdered and no one was there to take notice of it, and all Mr. Rehman Malik did was block cellphone services.
The feudal lords have gained authority and money. Corruption has been rising just as inflation has. Survival of common man seemed almost as difficult as putting the toothpaste back into the tube. A woman doubted if her husband would come back alive from office. Even the polio workers were not safe, and when President Asif Zardari gives his one and only interview this year, to a well-known journalist, Hamid Mir. A part of the conversation somehow shocks every one of us, as it goes something like this:

Hamid: “Well, the conditions are worsening. The PIA is deteriorated.”
Mr. President: “That’s what you think.”
Hamid: “The Railway is deteriorated.”
Mr. President: “That’s what you think.”
Hamid: “People are unhappy.”
Mr. President: “That’s what you think.”

At least our president doesn’t care about what his people think, he’s just too busy building palaces around the world.
2012, was a year of disaster. Every day, there was some breaking news, breaking many people’s hearts. Diseases, spread as if a gossip would, street crimes heavily increased, and no one is to take the blame of it, the people responsible are busy saving their seats.
This year was a death-defying one, but it was not just the fault of the government. Basically it is our own fault, why do we let the wrong people rule us, when we do have the power to decide and vote for people, we believe, can control the situation?
It is not wrong to say that 2012 was the year of political defections. I mean, we got so weak, that people like Tahir-ul-Qadri are able to challenge the government.
The 6000-odd violent deaths in 2012 put Pakistan amongst the most violent and volatile places in the world.
Among all this adversity, people of Pakistan, still survive. They survive by taking in, those little amounts of happiness they get, from their day to day lives. The contentment they get, when Pakistan Cricket Team wins a match against India, the pleasure they get when a baby is born, they joy they have when a wedding is decided, these all are what is keeping them tolerant enough.  Or else, every single person bears a hole in his heart, which would not be filled until and unless he gets justice, which seems unavailable right now.
Let’s just hope that 2013, proves to be more jubilant and prosperous, than 2012, and the year preceding that, because we, Pakistanis need a break, desperately!
